We usually run two courses for beginners each year, it is a condition of Archery GB (the governing body of archery in Great Britain) that attendance on such a course is required before you can become a member of an archery club.
All archery clubs put safety foremost. It is essential that anyone wishing to learn archery is given tuition in both the art of shooting, and the safety aspects of the sport. The courses we run at Knebworth are fun, but must be taken seriously. Archery isn’t dangerous – but it could be.
Green Dragon Bowmen is happy to welcome children from 8 years and over to join the club.
The course usually consists of three sessions (normally three afternoons over two weekends generally in early June and early September) On the last session of the course we hold a mini tournament and a ‘fun shoot’.

Hi to all the GDB volunteers on the recent beginner’s course – and a HUGE thank you to you all for your time, organisation and patience (not to mention energy) in setting up, explaining and showing us newbies how to shoot a bow and arrow safely! The backdrop of Knebworth House and the amazing weather only added to the overall enjoyment.

She’s had such a good week, as did G and L. We couldn’t recommend Green Dragon enough, it’s such an amazing and friendly group of people and it’s great to be a part of it. Maybe one day I’ll get into it but as a mum of 3 who is studying (2 separate courses) as well and working full time in a primary school and planning a 3 part extension to the house my head couldn’t cope with anything more at the moment.
